Pilot: Toronto, the GTA and Prince Edward County. Founding cooks: first 100 free for life

Guilt Free Takeout

Why we built this

Our family lives hours away from the people who would cook for us. With another baby on the way, we found ourselves wishing for the thing a grandmother, an aunt or a good neighbour used to do: show up with a pot of soup, a pie, a loaf of bread, something made by hand that you could put in the freezer for the week you could not cook.

We looked for it and found delivery apps. Hot food in a paper bag, from a kitchen you cannot see, with a list of ingredients you cannot read. That is not what we wanted. We wanted slow food: made in small batches by someone who knows how it is made, with the recipe in plain sight.

So we are building the marketplace we went looking for. Cooks across Toronto, the GTA and Prince Edward County make food that is frozen, baked or preserved. You pick one cook, read their recipe, see the dish the way it arrives and the way it looks on the table, and collect it from their door. One person cooking for one household.

It is also a way for good home cooks to earn something from what they already do well, with less waste and less packaging than the usual takeout.
